From Our Board
To All Members and Friends of the Tidewater Chavurah,
We are a growing Jewish family. To me, family implies bonds not only of religion but also of friendship, compassion, empathy and caring for each other.
I’d like to thank those who are members. Membership in Tidewater Chavurah does more than provide you with High Holiday admission and access to have your loved ones’ names placed in our yearly memorial booklet. Membership also permits you to vote and hold office, to be an integral part of Chavurah affairs as well as to join us at services and social events. It also gets you an invitation to our second night Passover Seder, which is free to members.
Our organization is proud of being a “synagogue without walls” that is active in both promoting the Chavurah and Jewish life in our region and beyond. I would also point out that both Rabbi Jaffe-Gill and I promote us in Jewish organizations and events outside our Chavurah.
I’d like to thank our friends and associates for coming to religious events and social gatherings. We understand that word of mouth, especially on social media, is a powerful tool to get us known and to turn friends into members.
We also love seeing those of you who are friends of the Chavurah at our services and other events. Because we incur extra expenses for the High Holidays, we do ask for a donation from non-members to attend Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services. But that donation can be applied against annual membership dues, and the process to become a member is simple. Currently, all you need to do is fill out a membership form application by emailing Carol at Carita@verizon.net and mail it with a check as indicated n the application. Our yearly dues are $420 per household. Dues can be paid monthly, quarterly or annually. Please remember to mail your dues and donations, made out to the Tidewater Chavurah, P.O. Box 9865, Virginia Beach, VA 23450.
Of course, if you’re able and willing, you can always make an additional donation, which strengthens the Chavurah financially and allows us to pursue our Jewish mission. On the other hand, we understand that families may go through difficult times, and we will respond accordingly. Our mission is to help our Jewish family.
We also rely on volunteers to help us with various aspects of both religious and social events such as setup, flowers, mitzvahs and general organization. We have a robust network, but help is always welcome to expand our presence and attract new folks there as well.
I am proud that we are a vibrant Jewish “family” in Hampton Roads. As Jewish demographics and the practice of Judaism change, so do we, and we heed the voices of our members. We also need the voices of our members and friends to talk up Tidewater Chavurah and post our doings on your social media feeds. Your assistance will help tremendously.
The Chavurah is like a beautiful flower which requires watering and nurturing so we can continue to grow and serve. The rewards of doing so are great.
Shalom and thanks,
William E. Feldman
